Microsoft Gaming Revenues Increased by 8%
Microsoft reported financial results for its second fiscal quarter, recording the biggest Halo launch in history.
Microsoft has reported an overall revenues increase of 20%, to $51.7 billion, the net income has increased by 21% to $18.8 billion. The company's other divisions' revenues have also improved.
The More Personal Computing segment, which includes Windows OEM and Windows Commercial revenues, search and news advertising, the Surface line of products, and Xbox, reported revenues up 15% to $17.5 billion, with the biggest growth in Windows and search and news advertising.
Gaming revenue increased $411 million or 8% while Xbox content and services revenue increased 10% due to growth in first-party titles and Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, which is an improvement from the 2% growth and 4% declines in the prior two quarters. The continued demand for Xbox Series X|S resulted in Xbox hardware revenue increasing 4%.
One of the first-party titles responsible for the increase in Xbox content revenue is Halo: Infinite launched into Game Pass during the quarter. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that 18 million people have played Forza Horizon 5, and over 20 million have played Halo: Infinite, making it "the biggest Halo launch in history." He mentioned that Microsoft Cloud had a record quarter with $22 billion in revenue, a 32% growth compared to the same quarter last year.
Finally, it was also shared that operating expenses across Microsoft increased 17% year-on-year, mainly due to investments in gaming, "primarily ZeniMax, search and news advertising, and Windows marketing."
The company's report doesn't mention Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
