Microsoft Presented Its New Mesh VR Platform

The new platform will let you join teammates in a virtual space.

Microsoft’s Alex Kipman, the inventor of Kinect and HoloLens, has recently revealed Microsoft’s new Mesh platform. The new toolkit allows users to put on a HoloLens 2 headset, enter a virtual meeting room, and join teammates.

The project is described as a collaborative platform that lets people share virtual experiences using different devices. "This has been the dream for mixed reality, the idea from the very beginning," said Kipman. "You can actually feel like you’re in the same place with someone sharing content or you can teleport from different mixed reality devices and be present with people even when you’re not physically together."

Initially, Mesh will feature people as virtual avatars taken from the AltspaceVR social network. Microsoft plans to eventually add “holoportation,” letting users appear as themselves in virtual rooms.
