Microsoft Releases 3D Movie Maker's Source Code
All thanks to one tweet by hardware and software developer Foone.
Microsoft announced that it has open-sourced 3D Movie Maker's source code. For those who don't know, MM is a 1995 BRender engine-powered program that allows its users to create short cartoony films by placing characters and props into pre-rendered environments. Finally, after 27 years since its creation, the software's source code has been made publically available.
The funniest thing is that the code was released because of only one tweet made by self-proclaimed "hardware/software necromancer" Foone. In the tweet, Foone simply asked Microsoft to open-source 3D Movie Maker to expand and extend it, and, surprisingly, Microsoft obliged. The developer commented that they plan to update 3D Movie Maker to run on modern PCs and add features that could make sharing its unique videos much easier.
