NantStudios Builds World's Largest LED Volume Stage in Melbourne, Australia
NantStudios has built the world's largest LED volume in Melbourne that is available to local and international productions.
Los Angeles-based virtual production studio NantStudios has revealed that its wholly-owned Australian subsidiary has built two new LED in-camera VFX stages in Melbourne, Australia.
One of them is currently the world's largest LED volume, featuring a 40-foot tall radiused wall made up of 6,000 ROE panels spanning 289 feet on a 25,000 square-foot stage. The construction of the larger build also includes a large water tank measuring 59' x 39' x 10' in the center.
According to NantStudios, the LED volume will feature a fully adjustable ceiling structure that can be dynamically controlled through proprietary 3D software to create and shape light as a seamless component of typical production lighting. The facility will also be able to accommodate large immersive sets and multiple sets concurrently by utilizing modular wall sections to divide smaller spaces within its extensive volume.
The second LED stage, standing at 26 feet tall, will have the same adjustable ceiling design and will be suitable for small to medium-sized set pieces and moving vehicle scenes.
NantStudios says these stages will be available for both local and global productions that are planning to film in Australia's State of Victoria. A branch of Universal Studio Group, UCP, and Matchbox Pictures will be the first companies to utilize NantStudios stages as its virtual production vendor for their upcoming projects.
