NetEase Games Opens Its First US Studio Jackalope Games

The new studio is located in Austin, Texas, and will operate independently maintaining creative autonomy. 

The Chinese gaming company NetEase Games announced the opening of its first US studio, Jackalope Games. With the new office located in Austin, Texas, the company plans to create online multiplayer games for PC and console.

NetEase Games emphasized that although Jackalope Games is its first first-party studio, it will operate independently maintaining creative autonomy. The company also noted that the first title produced by the studio will be fully funded by NetEase.

Jackalope Games will be led by Jack Emmert, an industry veteran who previously worked at Cryptic Studios as CEO and later served as head of games at Daybreak Game Company. Among the titles that he contributed to are City of Heroes, Neverwinter, Star Trek Online, and DC Universe Online.

Over the last year, NetEase Games has acquired a number of studios, many led by industry veterans. The company wrote that establishing Jackalope Games represents its "commitment to innovation and allowing developers to produce games that excite players globally."
