Netflix Unveils the First Trailer for the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Anime

The series is slated for release in September 2022.

During the Netflix Geeked Week event, Netflix unveiled the first teaser trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an anime series based on CD Projekt RED's video game Cyberpunk 2077.

The upcoming show is a 10-episode standalone series that will premiere on the streaming service in September 2022. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will follow the story of a street kid who is trying to survive in Night City, a futuristic metropolis overrun by corporations, corruption, organized crime, and gang violence.

First announced in 2020, the series is produced by CDPR along with Japan-based animation company Studio Trigger. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (known for Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promare) and feature character designs and animations by Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal).

The showrunner and executive producer on the show will be Rafał Jaki who is credited with games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077, and The Witcher: Ronin. The series will feature an adapted screenplay by Yoshiki Usa who also worked on the GRIDMAN UNIVERSE series and Promare, and the score for the series will be composed by Akira Yamaoka who also created music for the Silent Hill series.

In addition to the teaser, Netflix also released a short clip from the series, so you might also want to check it out. The clip demonstrates the scene where the main gang faces off against Night City's notorious Maelstrom Gang.
