New Co-Op Horror Game Based on Disney's Early Mickey Mouse

We're not even two full days into 2024, and already a historically significant event has occurred regarding Disney and its legendary 1928 short film Steamboat Willie, which gave birth to the studio's most iconic character and mascot, Mickey Mouse.

In case you missed it, on January 1, 2024, in accordance with the US copyright law, the earliest versions of Mickey and Minnie entered the public domain, allowing creators to freely use the likenesses of these renowned characters without seeking permission. As per the law, the rights for characters can only be maintained for 95 years, meaning it is now possible to share, reuse, and repurpose the first versions of the Mouse family without the risk of legal repercussions from Disney.

It's important to note, however, that only the earliest depictions of Mickey and Minnie Mouse have entered the public domain, while the more contemporary versions of these characters remain under copyright protection.

Immediately after it became legally possible, the Nightmare Forge Games team revealed Infestation 88, a co-op horror game for 1-4 players that transforms Steamboat Willie's Mickey Mouse into a terrifying entity that you and your friends must confront and eliminate.

In Infestation 88, you take on the role of an exterminator with the mission to tackle ominous infestations started by distorted versions of classic characters and urban legends. Your task involves exploring eerie locations, identifying the source of the infestation, wiping out nests and monstrous creatures using various extermination tools, and facing off against the characters responsible for the haunting infestations.
