New Tech Automatically Detects Game Engines on Steam

Lars Doucet teamed up with Steam Database to develop tech that automatically detects game engines in projects on Steam.

The instrument allows defining various technologies such as engines and SDKs used by games on Steam from depot file lists. The developer noted that this process is entirely automatic and does have mismatches.

Here are some numbers collected by the algorithm:

"Every app on Steam is associated with a number of file depots. For each app on Steam, SteamDB will run these scripts over all the filenames in all of its depots," states the GitHub page. "Note that it is file names, not files. These scripts only scan the names of the files, not the data they contain. Note that there are over 100 million files on SteamDB, so scanning filenames alone is already a pretty big task."

You can find the rules they use on GitHub. You can also find the project's page here. Also, don't forget to join our new Reddit pageour new Telegram channel, our Discord, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we are sharing breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
