New Vegas Game Director Says He Would Love to Work on a Fallout Game Agian

Obsidian's Josh Sawyer shared that he loves the franchise and its settings and that he would like to see him working on a Fallout game again.

Obsidian Entertainment's Josh Sawyer has recently sat with the hosts of the Kinda Funny Games podcast to discuss the story of Pentiment's success and, among others, touched upon the topic of Fallout saying that he would like to work on one of the games in the series again.

For those unaware, Obsidian already worked on a game in the franchise – the team created 2010's Fallout: New Vegas, the game that had a really warm reception when it was released. Currently, the title has an 84 review score as well as an 8.9 user score on Metacritic.

Speaking on the podcast, Sawyer shared that he loves the Fallout franchise and its setting and could work on a Fallout game again but said that it remains to be seen "where the future takes" him.

The New Vegas game director believes that in addition to such a location for a game as New Orleans that fans previously suggested he would also consider California or the Midwest. However, he noted that if he were to make the next Fallout game, the whole team would need to support the idea as well as this idea should fit the universe itself.

Sawyer also emphasized that developing a game on someone else's IP is always different from creating your own IP, as developers need to consider how a title from a third-party studio can affect the entire franchise.

"You know, working on something like Pentiment – which is just its own thing in the middle of nowhere – I can kind of make decisions more or less however I want," he said. "But when it's part of a larger IP and franchise it has to kind of work within a larger vision of what is Fallout and I don't get to decide everything about that it's not my thing."

Earlier, Obsidian already expressed its desire to create a new Fallout game. In an interview with DualShockers, Obsidian co-founder Feargus Urquhart said the studio is still interested in the Fallout franchise, however, he noted that it doesn't have any specific plans just yet.
