Nintendo of America head Doug Bowser has spoken out on allegedly stressful working conditions at the company following multiple complaints from current and former contract workers concerning employee rights.
Previously, several outlets, including IGN, Kotaku, and Axios, reported alleged violations of labor rights and labor exploitation at Nintendo of America.
The reports covered the employees' comments with some of them arguing that their right to unionize has been violated, while others talked about the situation experienced by contract workers complaining that the company requires them to work as "first-class" employees, at the same time treating them as "second class workers". The contractors noted that they had different terms of payment compared to full-time employees, didn't have any benefits, and had almost no possibility to become permanent employees.
In an internal email to Nintendo employees (shared by Axios), Bowser addressed the issue saying that he finds a number of points regarding these allegations "troubling" and stated that the company has begun to "review the content".
The Nintendo if America boss also stressed that the company has "zero-tolerance for inappropriate conduct, including harassment, discrimination or intimidation".
However, according to Axios, the current workers state that they find this message "disappointing" as it did not refer to the core of the problem.
