According to recent reports, Nintendo has delayed the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 until 2025. Based on the information from Bloomberg, the company has informed some game publishers that the new console will not be launched until March 2025, with information coming from anonymous sources.
Bloomberg highlights that Nintendo will be skipping "the key holiday shopping period" of late 2024, which is typically a prime time for console launches. Analysts speculate that 2024 might not see many releases from Nintendo, as the company may aim to unveil its new hits alongside the next-gen Switch.
"Nintendo is likely looking at a pretty dry pipeline this year," Serkan Toto, a Tokyo-based Analyst, shared with Bloomberg. "The company will still try to keep the blockbusters for the next console, so 2024 might see more remakes of old Nintendo hits. In any case, 2024 will be a lot tougher for Nintendo without a new device."
Nintendo hasn't officially provided a comment for the recent reports.
Speaking of the Switch 2, the successor to the original console was showcased for the first time at Gamescom 2023, which took place in September 2023. Even though it was behind closed doors, some lucky ones had a chance to witness it.
As for the Nintendo Switch, the console sales have recently reached over 139 million units, with Super Mario Bros. Wonder closing to nearly 12 million copies.
