Although the hacker has served his sentence, his punishment is far from over.
In case you missed it, back in February 2022, hacker and an alleged salesman at Team Xecuter, a group notorious for hacking Nintendo's Nintendo Switch consoles, Gary Bowser was sentenced to 40 months in prison for the distribution of jailbroken devices, a charge to which Bowser pleaded guilty.
Thanks to good behavior while in prison, the hacker has recently been released on parole, but it seems that even though the sentence has been officially served, Bowser's punishment is far from over.
As said by Bowser himself during an interview with podcaster Nick Moses, on top of serving the time, he will still have to pay Nintendo $10 million in fines, much more than the reported $320K Bowser earned at Team Xecuter, with the company being able to take 25-30% of his personal income for the rest of his days. Earlier, Nintendo stated that the hacking group's activities had caused "damages greater than $65m", justifying the fine imposed on Bowser. A small portion of the fine, Bowser also noted, has already been paid, with Nintendo recouping $175 out of the money he earned while in prison.
