Nintendo Switch Sales Reportedly Surpassed 117.27 Million Units
Nintendo Switch has reportedly outsold PlayStation 4 becoming the fourth highest-selling video game platform of all time.
The Nintendo Switch's lifetime sales have reached over 117.27 million units surpassing the sales of the PlayStation 4 which has sold about 117.03 million units since its release, VGChartz reports citing its estimates.
The figure includes combined sales of the three Nintendo Switch models that are currently on the market, with an estimated 1,331,185 units being sold over the week ending November 26, 2022. According to VGChartz, the new milestone makes Nintendo's console the fourth best-selling video game platform of all time.
The Nintendo Switch was released on March 3, 2017, so the 117 million figure was reached in about 5 years and 8 months since the console went on sale. Meanwhile, PS4 was released on November 15, 2013, so it took Sony about 8-9 years to achieve the same sales numbers.
VGChartz estimates that in terms of the region, most of the Nintendo Switch sales came from North America (42.29 million units) which is followed by Europe (29.75 million units) and Japan (27.13 million units). 18.11 million Nintendo Switch consoles were sold in the rest of the world.
The majority of PlayStation 4 consoles were sold in Europe (45.92 million units), while its sales in North America were 38.20 million units. 9.58 million PS4 consoles were sold in Japan and 23.32 million units – in the rest of the world.
