Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Team Ninja reported that sales of Nioh 2 exceeded 2.5 million copies. The announcement coincided with the series' fifth anniversary in Japan.
Nioh 2 reached the mark of 2.5 million after almost two years since its release, while the number of sold copies has increased by 500 thousand units since the previous sales update that was reported in April 2021.
Initially, the game was launched on PlayStation 4 in March 2020 as a PlayStation exclusive, but in February 2021 it was also released on PC. A Nioh Collection that includes remastered versions of both the original game and the sequel was also launched on PlayStation 5 in February 2021. Earlier, the publisher reported that the total sales of the Nioh series surpassed five million copies, but now this figure has raised to around six million, taking into account sales of both parts.
Team Ninja previously stated that they are not planning to make a Nioh 3. "In terms of a sequel right now, Team Ninja would like to focus on working on new titles," said the developers. However, later Nioh franchise director Fumihiko Yasuda shared: "l don’t know when it will be, but I want to utilize the experience the team gains from these new titles in order to create a sequel that will surpass both Nioh and Nioh 2."
