The NPD Group released the new Mobile Gaming Report on the US and Canadian gaming markets done in collaboration with mobile app analytics firm Sensor Tower. According to the report, in 2021, the total number of mobile gamers across the two countries amounted to 228.7 million people (63%).
The analytics group notes that the number displays a decline of 4% compared to the year earlier, although it increased by 6% compared to the 2019 figures. The decrease is related to people who hadn't been active players before the pandemic and returned to their habits prior to it as well as the device access being altered due to increased activity away from home.
The report also points out that among all mobile gaming genres, skill & chance, puzzle, and strategy still saw an increase in revenue growing by 54% compared to 2020. The sports genre, on the contrary, was down by 4% compared to its 2020 results.
