Otoy Revealed Octane 2022
Check out a new photon tracing kernel and other new features.
Otoy shared a look at Octane 2022, the next version of the GPU production renderer, and introduced OctaneRender 2022.1 XB0, the first experimental build of the CUDA edition. The latest update brings a new photon tracing kernel that makes rendering caustics “about 1000x faster”, and a bunch of other new features.
The team also scheduled for later in the Octane 2022 release cycle including Brigade, Otoy’s real-time path tracing engine, and its new multi-render system.
One of the main things is OctaneRender 2022.1 is its new photon tracing kernel that produces less noisy caustic effects than the existing PMC system, even when it comes to using lower sample counts. The tech is said to use a "novel combination of GPU photon mapping and path guiding".
As for bonuses, Otoy has updated its subscription packages providing subscribers with access to a wider range of bundled tools, including fluid simulation tool EmberGen, procedural terrain generator World Creator, plus Architron among other things.
