The designer notes though they have a unique mechanic in development.
Peter Molyneux has recently shared some details on his upcoming, yet unannounced game from 22Cans in an interview with Gamereactor. The designer says he doesn't want to repeat his own mistakes and reveal details about the project prematurely.
With Fable, for example, and other games by the developer, many players were left disappointed when they noticed how the final version differed from Molyneux's original promises. The creator now wants to be more cautious with his words in the future.
"So in days gone by, I would just start telling you about the whole game and the whole game design and why it was going to be the most brilliant game in the world", Molyneux said. "And people looking at this would then get very annoyed and angry. So I'm not going to do that".
Molyneux, though, couldn't resist mentioning that they are currently working on a mechanic that has not been seen in video games before. Little is known about this idea, but the designer noted that the upcoming game will be closer to the early works of Lionhead Studios.
"I do think, though we have stumbled, and it feels like stumbling on a mechanic that has never been seen in a game before. I feel like we are exploiting that mechanic in a world and an environment which may be familiar to people. And because it is in a familiar environment, it'll be a lot fresher. And a lot of this is very mystical because I'm trying to avoid to tell you what it's like. But it's going to be a lot more like a kind of Fable - Black and White - Dungeon Keeper kind of experience".
22Cans has been busy for several years. Right now, they are focused on PC and console versions but not considering mobile platforms.
Peter Molyneux is known for many legendary titles, including his games at Lionhead Studio: Fable, Black & White, The Movies. He founded his own independent studio, 22Cans, in 2012. In 2022, the company launched its blockchain game, Legacy, but they emphasize it is not related to the studio's next project.
