He will take on the role starting in March and will be responsible for expanding the company's publishing portfolio and growing its team.
Former director of indie publishing at Square Enix Phil Elliott will become the new CEO of indie publisher Modern Wolf – he will take on the new position starting in March 2023.
Elliott's primary focus at Modern Wolf will be to expand the company's publishing portfolio and grow its team.
"Having watched closely from afar, it’s clear that Modern Wolf is at an exciting and crucial juncture in its journey as a publisher," Elliott said. "I’m hugely excited to be coming onboard at a time when there’s a lot of momentum, and working with the team to nurture the existing portfolio, grow the team, and take the Modern Wolf label to lofty new heights."
Elliott announced his departure from Square Enix three weeks ago. He had been with the company for over 11 years, with 10 of those years being spent at its indie publishing label, Square Enix Collective.
After his departure, Timea Edvi took over his role as director of the indie publisher. She had been with the Collective since 2016 and had most recently served as the senior brand and marketing manager.
Before his decade-long tenure at Square Enix, Elliott worked as a games journalist. He served as the editor and later as the publisher of GamesIndustry.biz for more than three years, starting from 2007. He was also the editor at GameSpot from 2006 to 2007 and worked at BBC Radio for four years.
