PlatinumGames Says It Could Show Project GG in June 2023

The studio shared that the project has become much more ambitious than Hideki Kamiya originally envisioned.

PlatinumGames has recently shared a few more details about its upcoming title codenamed Project GG. According to the studio, it is the first project of such a large scale, which the Japanese studio is going to self-publish.

Project GG was first announced in February 2020, but, apparently, the game looked absolutely different back then. The title was described as the "climax" to Kamiya’s superhero trilogy, following Viewtiful Joe and The Wonderful 101, but it seems that now it is the most ambitious title the studio has ever made.

Speaking to the Japanese outlet Famitsu (via VCG), Project GG director Hideki Kamiya shared that he didn't think the game would turn out to be such a huge project as it is now, especially if the studio listened to his ideas alone.

"Project GG started when I first presented the core of the game. That core is also contained in the teaser trailer. To put it simply, I was only thinking about what was in that video," Kamiya said.

However, the studio's president and CEO Atsushi Inaba saw the potential in Project GG and motivated Kamiya to take the project in a new direction.

"The way we expanded from there had a lot to do with Inaba’s big ambitions. Rather than creating a single game, Inaba’s proposal was to say 'this is the kind of game Platinum Games is going to make from now on'," he added.

The director also shared that according to the original idea, the game would have been basically just an action game. However, now, due to Inaba's ambitions, the game has significantly expanded and it won't be just pure action. Although it will still be similar to Kamiya’s previous projects as it is built around one "core" gameplay mechanic.

PlatinumGames shared that the game will probably be revealed to the audience in June 2023. When asked to specify whether the title will be showcased at E3 or Summer Game Fest, the studio's new vice president and CBO Takao Yamane said: "To put it another way, we won’t have any information until that point. Please look forward to further information.”
