Preview: Updates to V-Ray’s VRayMtl

Here are some new upgrades coming to V-Ray.

Chaos Group CTO Vlado Koylazov has recently shared two new videos on his YouTube channel with a look at R&D work on VRayMtl, V-Ray's standard material.

One of the videos presents improved translucency when rendering skin or similar materials. The update is said to be available in the next update to V-Ray 5.

The video above shows experiments with integrating VRayScatterVolume as the translucency component of the VRayMtl material.

3ds Max users will also get a more accurate representation of VRayMtl in the 3ds Max viewport. The second video compares the viewport preview to rendered output in the V-Ray frame buffer.
