Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform

Check out this great platform for AR app developers.

At Augmented World Expo 2021, Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform, a new platform for game developers that supports a cross-device ecosystem and empowers developers to create immersive experiences for AR glasses by providing a uniform set of augmented reality features independent of device manufacturers. The platform will support both Unity and Unreal Engine.

The company has also revealed some of Snapdragon Spaces XR Development Platform's features. For example, positional tracking maps the environment and estimates the location, position, and orientation of the smart glasses in six degrees of freedom within 3D space. This enables developers to understand and track the end-user’s position relative to the world. The platform supports the semantic understanding of floors, walls, and ceilings in a scene. Finally, hand tracking enables the recognition, tracking, and meshing of a user’s hands to enable more natural, intuitive, fast, and precise input when interacting with the augmented world without the need for physical controllers.
