Quest v38 Update Lays Foundations for Meta’s Horizon Home

The latest Quest software update introduced several social enhancements indicating Meta gradually moving to the launch of Horizon Home.

Meta is steadily implementing its latest Quest software update, v38, introducing several social enhancements including the ones that improve the home experience on Quest headsets, turning the lonesome home space into a more social one. The changes indicate that Meta is gradually moving to the launch of Horizon Home, the replacement for the company's current Quest Home.

Apart from home experiences, there are several changes to the App Library. After the update, any apps within the library that has multiplayer features now will be highlighted if you’re in a party with other users. Besides, there is a new "Recently Met" feature that allows finding the users you've recently played with which can be accessed by pressing the Oculus home button when in a game or within the People Tab.

The updates also touched upon the settings menu which now has a search bar. Additionally, several settings that previously could be found in Experimental Features have moved to full release. Now, placing mixed reality couches and desks in the Quest home environment became available for everyone and can be accessed in the Guardian settings. Tracked Keyboards and Bluetooth settings have also moved from Experimental Features to Device Settings.

Meta also mentioned the updates in the Quest tracking system, although it wasn't disclosed what particularly has been improved in it.
