Researcher Previews a New High-Speed Method For Cloth Simulation

Described as "probably the fastest in the world", the method is compatible with CPUs and GPUs.

Huamin Wang, a Chief Science Officer at Style3D, a company specializing in 3D tools for creating, displaying, and collaborating on digital clothing assets, has shared a brief demo previewing a new method for high-speed cloth simulations the team seems to have discovered.

Described as "probably the fastest in the world", the method is compatible with both CPUs and GPUs, running close to real-time for 40K nodes on an Intel Core i9 13900K processor. "On a GPU, it can probably run in real-time for 100K to 200K nodes," commented Huamin.

So far, information regarding the novel approach is pretty scarce, with the scientist only revealing that they have a simulator plug-in for Unreal Engine in the works. In the future, Huamin plans to write a research paper and file a patent on the method and/or integrate it into Style3D software products, meaning that one way or the other, it's highly likely that we'll get a new way of setting up highly-realistic digital clothes sometime very soon.
