Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent will be stepping down from his role this year. He will continue to be involved with the company but in an advisory capacity.
Riot has announced that Nicolo Laurent, the CEO of the company, will be stepping down from his position this year, after serving for 6 years.
In a letter, Laurent has revealed that he has been contemplating resigning as CEO for a while. He explained that he has made this decision because he wants to relocate to France and spend more time with his wife and four children. While he intends to continue working at Riot, he will do so in an advisory role for "years to come."
"While this chapter is coming to a close, I don’t view this as an end – I don’t plan on joining another company or starting a new company," he wrote. "I love Riot, and I genuinely believe this is the best place in the world to make games… now more than ever. So I’ll stay at Riot as an advisor, for years to come, doing everything I can to help you win."
Laurent joined Riot in 2009 when the studio was in its early stages of developing League of Legends. Over the years, he has held various high-ranking positions within the company, eventually becoming CEO in late 2017.
Dylan Jadeja, the current global president of Riot, will take over from Laurent as the new CEO. Jadeja has been with the company since 2011 and was appointed president in 2017. Riot disclosed that they conducted a three-year search for a new CEO and evaluated numerous exceptional candidates before unanimously selecting Jadeja.
"As CEO, it is fair to assume that I may do some things differently than those before me, but I want to assure you that the goal for us – together —–will not waver," Jadeja said. "And that is to make Riot, unequivocally, the most trusted and authentic game company in the world… built by players, for players."
