Riot Unveils Details of Nostalgic League of Legends Classic
It launches in July.
Riot Games revealed details of League Classic, a new gameplay experience recreating the game's early years.
The "classic era" might mean different time periods for players – beta, Season 1, Season 3, or even a particular patch like Devourer or Challenging Smite Warwick, and the new project aims to have something for everyone. Riot started with Season 3 as an anchor point, but the experience is more of a collection of greatest hits, pulling features from different seasons.
Combat will feel slower and more deliberate: champions will have sharper strengths and weaknesses, slower missiles and dashes, and pricier, harder-hitting spells that demand more strategic play. The map also recreates the early Summoner's Rift, with faster-respawning buffs and camps, alongside targeted visual upgrades to lighting, shadows, and textures for better readability.

At launch, Classic includes 60 champions: the original 40 alongside 20 hand-picked champions from 2009-2013, with more from that era planned over time.

League Classic will launch with a single PvP draft queue, Co-op vs AI, and customs. Progression comes through a new system called Summoner's Journey – once players hit Classic Level 10, they'll start their journey at Salt, then progress through Wood and beyond, all the way up to Legend.
League of Legends Classic launches on July 29. Read the details here and subscribe to our Newsletter, join our 80 Level Talent platform, Discord, and follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn, Telegram, and Instagram, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
