Rockstar Reportedly Shelved GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption Remasters

Although, according to sources, the studio may return to their development after it releases the next GTA.

On Monday, known Rockstar Games and GTA insider Tez2 reported that a few years ago, Rockstar considered developing remasters of GTA IV and the original Red Dead Redemption, however, eventually decided to shelve the projects.

The insider also suggested that the decision to not develop the updated versions of GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption might be caused by the unsuccessful launch of GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition which had numerous bugs and problems and was poorly received by the fans of the game.

According to a recent report by Kotaku, which cites its own sources familiar with the plans of the studio, Rockstar was indeed considering remastering the games but later decided to scrap the plan. The report claims that the studio is currently focusing its efforts on the next GTA game which earlier this year the company confirmed was in development.

However, the updated versions of GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption were not completely abandoned, according to the sources, and it is possible that the studio will return to them after it releases GTA VI. The studio also reportedly hopes that fans will soon forget about the highly-criticized remaster of the classic GTA trilogy.

The development of the next GTA was confirmed in February 2022, although the studio has not yet revealed when the game is planned to be released. The development of GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption remasters has not been publicly announced.
