Rumor Says Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 Pitch Was Rejected

Activision decided to make Vicarious Visions into a support team that helps with their main series, especially Call of Duty.

In 2020, Vicarious Visions launched Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, a remastered compilation of the first two games of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series, which was met with widespread popularity. This success sparked interest in the remastered versions of the third and fourth games, which could have been a reality if Activision had approved the project.

Allegedly, Activision declined a pitch for a remastered version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4. Instead, they reassigned Vicarious Visions, the developer, to assist with work on the Call of Duty franchise.

A new video from DidYouKnowGaming sheds light on Vicarious Visions' attempt to develop the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 remaster. Initially, the remastered version of the first two games was intended to include the third and fourth games. However, due to the scope of the project, the focus was shifted exclusively to the first two games, with the intention of revisiting the third and fourth games later.

However, reportedly when the proposal was presented to Activision, the project was rejected to enable Vicarious Visions to provide assistance on Call of Duty projects.

“Activision’s plan for Vicarious Visions was to ultimately transition them into becoming a support studio focused on supplementing these franchises [ like Call of Duty] and cutting back on the amount of projects they would produce in-house. This they deemed would be a better use of their resources from a financial perspective.”

Activision Blizzard announced in January 2021 its plans to merge Vicarious Visions into Blizzard to function as a support team, marking an end to its lead developer role. Tony Hawk later revealed that the anticipated remakes of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 were eventually canceled due to this merger.
