San from Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke Recreated in 3D

Take a look at this fantastic character recreation made by Massimiliano Bianchini.

Italian 3D Artist Massimiliano Bianchini has revealed a new realistic recreation of a famous character. This time, the author has recreated San, a young woman who was raised by the wolves in Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke. To recreate the character, the author used ZBrush for modeling, Substance 3D Painter for texturing, TexuringXYZ and 3D Scan Store for skin displacement, and XGen for hair and fur. Additionally, Maya and Arnold were also used.

Massimiliano Bianchini is well known for his great recreations of iconic characters from games and movies. Previously, the artist had released his versions of Kratos from God of War, Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher, Thor from Avengers: Endgame, and Joel and Ellie from The Last of Us. You can find all these projects and more by visiting the artist's ArtStation page.

What's more, back in 2020 Massimiliano had visited 80 Level to tell us more about the workflow behind Ellie. The artists had shared the production details behind the portrait, talked about sculpting in ZBrush, explained the skin texturing and grooming processes, and more. You can check out our interview with the artist here
