"So Gross": Life is Strange Fans Expect Hella Spoilers Due to Double Exposure's Ultimate Edition Perk

For just 30 bucks, you get a chance to ruin the experience for thousands of players.

Less than three full days after its announcement, the highly anticipated continuation of the Life is Strange franchise has already become a subject of controversy, with fans criticizing the new title's developers for one of the paid perks they offer, which has the potential to spoil the game's opening chapters for thousands of players.

For context, during the recent Xbox Games Showcase event, Deck Nine and Square Enix officially announced Life is Strange: Double Exposure, the long-awaited continuation of the supernatural teenager simulator series, bringing back the franchise's OG protagonist, Max Caulfield.

Shortly after the announcement, the developers shared additional details about the game's pricing options and editions, revealing that the $80 Ultimate Edition, priced $30 higher than the standard one, would allow players to access chapters 1 and 2 of Double Exposure two weeks ahead of the planned October 29 release, starting on October 15.

With Life is Strange games being celebrated first and foremost for the stories they offer rather than actual gameplay mechanics, the potential of getting hella spoilers even before the game's release and having the entire experience ruined didn't sit well with many fans, who now think they will have to log off the Internet for the second half of October in order to avoid spoilers that will almost certainly flood the forums and social media platforms mere minutes after Double Exposure's pre-release.

Over on Reddit and Twitter, fans lambasted the game's creators for this "scummy move", accusing Square Enix of forcing them to choose between getting the opening chapters spoiled or paying an extra $30. Others criticized the increasingly common pricing model itself, viewing the existence of Ultimate and Deluxe editions as a predatory attempt to get more money from the franchise's loyal fans.
