Sony Interactive Entertainment's Isabelle Tomatis has officially announced the release date of the PlayStation VR2 headset and PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station. According to a new blog post, the company's next-generation VR devices will become available on February 22, 2023, with pre-orders starting later this month.
First introduced during the CES 2022 press conference, PSVR 2 promises to feature 4K HDR, a 110-degree field of view, foveated rendering, eye tracking, 3D audio, and adaptive triggers and haptic feedback from the PSVR 2 Sense controllers, enabling unique gameplay experiences and providing the next level of immersion. Here are the device's specs:
- Display method: OLED
- Panel resolution: 2000x2040 per eye
- Panel refresh rate: 90Hz, 120Hz
- Lens separation: Adjustable
- FoV: Approximately 110 degrees
- Motion Sensor: Six-axis motion sensing system (three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer)
- Attachment Sensor: IR Proximity sensor
- Cameras: 4 cameras for headset and controller trackingIR camera for eye tracking per eye
- Feedback: Vibration on headset
- Communication with PS5: USB Type-C
The announcement also revealed PSVR 2's lineup, stating that the headset will be available in two configurations. The first one is the PlayStation VR2 version, which includes PSVR 2 headset, PSVR 2 Sense controllers, and stereo headphones and will be available for $549.99, and the second one is the PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, which includes a PlayStation Store voucher code for Horizon Call of the Mountain on top of the tech mentioned above and will be available for $599.99. The PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station's price was announced to be $49.99.
