Sony Interactive Entertainment Shares Its Plans for the Future

PlayStation intends to ship more PC titles, change their approach to publishing new releases, and invest 50% of their budget into new IPs.

Besides providing an overview of the company's earnings in FY22 and revealing the sales numbers of Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man and Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part I on PC, Sony Interactive Entertainment's latest Game & Network Services Segment financial report has also shed some light on the company's current PlayStation roadmap, revealing their plans for the near future.

According to the report, the studio plans to change their approach to publishing new releases in the coming years by "varying the portfolio", shipping two or more major releases per year that would cover various genres, mixing of single-player and Live Services titles, and balancing big franchises and brand-new IPs, believing that the planned changes will lead to audience growth

Furthermore, SIE revealed that they intend to focus more on making their games available on PC, planning to increase the ratio of PC titles to 40% by fiscal year 2025.

Additionally, the team shared that they want to increase the investments into new IPs, planning to dedicate 40% and 50% of their investment budget to brand-new IPs by FY 2023 and FY2025, respectively.

The report also revealed that SIE plans to expand their IPs "beyond gaming", creating movies, TV series, and merchandise based on PlayStation titles, which is supposed to "broaden franchise awareness" and "give existing fans more ways to engage".
