The upcoming revamped service has the code-name "Spartacus".
Sony is planning to completely revamp its PlayStation subscription service to rival Xbox Game Pass, according to Bloomberg. According to the report, the information comes from "people familiar with Sony’s plans and documents". The new, updated version of PlayStation's subscription service, code-named "Spartacus" in the documents, is planned to be revealed in spring 2022 and will merge Sony's PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now services. The documents, reviewed by Bloomberg, suggest that Sony will retain the PlayStation Plus branding but phase out PlayStation Now.
Reportedly, the service will be launched with 3 tiers. The first would include ongoing PlayStation Plus offerings, the second would offer a large catalog of PlayStation 4 and, eventually, PlayStation 5 games, and the third tier would give access to a library of classic PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP games, as well as add extended demos and game streaming technology.
