Sony Reportedly Expects to Ship 10.5M PS5 Consoles in Q3 2023

Sony is reportedly expecting significant growth in sales of its PlayStation 5 console this year.

That's according to industry insider Tom Henderson who, citing internal Sony sources, claims that the company anticipates selling a whopping 10.5 million units during the period from October to December 2023.

Henderson believes that such expectations are related to Sony's plans to release a new version of the gaming device that will feature a detachable disc drive which is supposedly set to enter the market in September 2023.

In October 2022, Henderson reported that the company was estimated to sell 30.5 million units in the fiscal year 2023, which would almost reach the total sales of 32 million units since the launch of the PS5 in November 2020.

According to Henderson's sources, it is predicted that the new model with a detachable disc drive will sell 18.5 million units in the fiscal year 2023, resulting in only about 12 million units of the original PS5 being sold before Sony completely stops production during that same year.

It's worth noting that the new version of the console has not yet been officially announced, and therefore it is not clear when the PS5 with a detachable disc drive will hit the shelves of retail stores but Henderson claims that the production of the device will start in April 2023, so it is expected that the company will announce it around the same time.
