Based on the patent's description and accompanying images, it seems that Sony is considering the integration of emojis in VR.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a new patent suggesting a potential introduction of emojis for VR, which could simplify and personalize communication in virtual reality.
As per the patent's description, in different virtual reality environments, users may encounter unfamiliar communication methods, including typing and talking, among others. However, these methods may vary across different games and environments, potentially causing confusion for users and Sony's patent aims to address this challenge.
In the patent, Sony outlines a user-defined cue that can be created with a gesture or motion detected by the VR device. The cue is linked to a customized instruction and stored in memory.
The VR device subsequently tracks movements and gestures to identify the specific cue and display the associated image or symbol. Additionally, the patent indicates that users may have the option to adjust these cues according to their preferences.
Sony's most recent VR project, the PS VR2, could potentially incorporate this technology in the coming years. However, it is also possible that this patent is part of Sony's future plans.
