Nagamatsu composed music for various popular video game franchises, including Splatoon, Mario Kart, Super Mario, and Smash Bros.
Ryo Nagamatsu, the composer for video games such as Splatoon, Mario Kart, Super Mario, and Smash Bros, has recently announced his departure from Nintendo after a 17-year career with the company.
Nagamatsu announced the news via Twitter saying they have left Nintendo to pursue further creative opportunities in the industry, indicating an amicable departure.
"I have made a decision to leave the company of April 30, 2023," he wrote. "I will work a little wider and more directly to help those who need my help and to help the industry. Thank you all for your kind support! I look forward to serve you in the future!"
Nagamatsu began his career at Nintendo in 2006 by creating music for Wii Play. They later went on to create music for various titles including Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 3. Additionally, Nagamatsu is credited with a special thanks in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Arms. His final project for Nintendo was 2022's Splatoon 3.
Although Nagamatsu has left Nintendo, it appears that he is not finished creating music for video games entirely. It will be interesting to see which non-Nintendo projects he becomes involved with in the future.
