Staffordshire University Is Offering a 3D Computer Games Design Master's Degree

The course will teach you advanced techniques to use as a character, environment, or vehicle and weapon artist.

If you already have a bachelor's degree and would like to deepen your knowledge of 3D, consider this course offered by Staffordshire University.

The 13-month course will "teach you advanced techniques to use as a character, environment, or vehicle and weapon artist, with the aim of setting you up for your future career." You will master Unreal Engine to develop complex frameworks, AI systems, and small games. The university promises access to a fully equipped, industry-standard space for games developers as well as technology and guidance from experts in the field.

"Our core modules will equip you with advanced research techniques and production skills covering everything from environmental design to character, vehicle, and weapon prototyping.

The Msc Project and Portfolio will extend your understanding of a chosen subject, building on the practical skills and theory gained during the course. You’ll be supported by an academic supervisor to develop your ideas. This could be character models, a large-scale environment, a dissertation and academic paper, a game, a series of game prototypes, or a system or framework for a computer game."

The program's compulsory modules are:

  • Advanced Vehicle And Weapon Prototyping
  • Masters Collaborative Project
  • Msc Project And Portfolio

To enroll in the course, you need to have a 2:2 or above undergraduate qualification and an IELTS score of a minimum of 6.0 if you're an international student. You should also provide a portfolio demonstrating a high–low poly workflow, 3D sculpting, unwrapping, texturing, and the use of a games engine to display assets (for 3D artists) or level designs, videos/demos of small games, and examples of visual /C# scripting (for designers).

The university offers an Epic Games Lab and a Motion Capture Stage.
