Steam Deck's Gaming Library Explodes with Over 14,000 Compatible Titles

Two years after its initial launch, the Steam Deck continues to enhance the gaming experience for its users. The handheld device now boasts compatibility with more than 14,000 games, according to the tracking site, SteamDB.

The Steam Deck, available in both LCD and OLED versions, is a powerful, portable PC gaming device designed for comfort and a console-like gaming experience. Out of the vast library of compatible games, 4,607 are 'Verified' by Valve, ensuring they work "great on Steam Deck, right out of the box". The remaining 9,416 games are labeled as 'Playable', which might require some manual adjustments by users.

Valve is meticulously reviewing its entire Steam catalog for Steam Deck compatibility. Every game is marked with one of four ratings to indicate how smooth the gaming experience would be on the device. The games can either be 'Verified', 'Playable', 'Unsupported' (meaning they do not work on Steam Deck), or 'Unknown' (yet to be checked).

To earn a 'Deck Verified' status, a game must meet four criteria: full controller support and appropriate controller input icons; support for the Steam Deck's default resolution; no compatibility warnings; and if running through Proton, which is a software that enables gamers to play Windows-specific games on Linux systems, the game and all its middleware should be supported by Proton, including anti-cheat support.

Players can check the compatibility of their games using the Steam Deck Compatibility page, which gives a log of tested games. 

Valve's commitment to enhancing the gaming experience on the Steam Deck is evident from the increasing number of games getting Steam Deck compatibility ratings. Despite minor imperfections, the 'Deck Verified' compatibility program, launched in October 2021, continues to highlight some of the best Steam Deck games.

As of now, 3,160 games have been released on the digital distribution platform this year alone. Keep an eye out for Steam's Spring Sale and other exciting promotions lined up for early 2024.
