Surreal Dreamcore-Style Animation Made Entirely in Blender

Kanmi Tarou perfectly captured the retro CG aesthetic in 3D.

3D Artist and Photographer Kanmi Tarou, also known as bento_taberu, continues keeping the surreal and weirdly eye-pleasing Dreamcore aesthetic alive by presenting an awesome new 3D animation that is sure to draw gasps of excitement from the fans of the genre.

Perfectly capturing the feel and appearance of old-school computer graphics, Kanmi's creation is filled to the brim with phantasmagorical imagery, bizarre characters, and liminal spaces, which coupled with
iamber's slowed-down version of Molina's vaporware hit 'Hey Kids' create a truly delightful visual experience. According to the artist, the sequence was set up entirely in Blender, a popular open-source 3D software.

Notably, this is not the first time Kanmi has used Blender to capture the dreamy atmosphere of liminality in 3D. Attached below are some of the artist's earlier works:

You can see more of Kanmi's amazing works by visiting the artist's Twitter page. And if you'd like to explore spaces like the ones depicted in Kanmi's pieces firsthand, we highly recommend checking out VaIenQpr's Dreamcore, an upcoming body-cam-style psychological horror that lets its players explore a variety of liminal spaces inspired by some of the most iconic "backrooms" images.

In Dreamcore, players will take on the challenge of navigating through eerie levels and solving puzzles along the way, with the ultimate goal, as you might have already guessed, of escaping. Although the game is still WIP, the demo version of Dreamcore is already available and can be accessed for free via Steam. You can learn more by clicking this link.
