Keanu Reeves has shared that he's frustrated and scared by deepfake technologies and expressed his concerns that AIs may replace people at their jobs in much nearer future than we expect.
The topic of deep learning and AI tools has been widely discussed for quite some time now, especially, lately when deepfake technologies have shown significant advancements and such AI generators as Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, DALL-E, and ChatGPT emerged.
Some renowned artistic figures also got involved in the discussions regarding these modern technologies. For instance, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro shared a couple of months ago that he believes AI is not the "expression of the soul" calling AI art "an insult to life itself."
Most recently, Keanu Reeves has joined the discussion sharing his opinion on AI tools and deepfake technologies. In an interview with Wired, the actor shared that he is frustrated and scared by deepfakes explaining that because of them "you lose your agency."
"When you give a performance in a film, you know you’re going to be edited, but you’re participating in that," he said. "If you go into deepfake land, it has none of your points of view. That’s scary."
"The people who are paying you for your art would rather not pay you," he explained. "They’re actively seeking a way around you, because artists are tricky. Humans are messy."
He was also asked if a bot could replace human conversation and while the interviewer was confident that this would not happen in their lifetime, Reeves said that AIs will be able to take interviews much sooner than expected. "Oh no, you should be worried about that happening next month," he said.
Well, it's hard not to believe a person associated with leading a revolution against machines.
