Controversial The Last of Us Kiss Nomination at MTV Movie Awards Leaves Fans Disturbed
This year's MTV Movie Awards surprised fans with a peculiar Best Kiss nomination for the portrayal of Tess's "kiss" in The Last of Us.
The MTV Movie Awards come around annually, featuring nominations for various films and TV shows across conventional and some unexpected categories. However, one nomination in this year's event has garnered additional attention due to its peculiar and unsettling nature.
HBO's successful adaptation of The Last of Us has received a total of five nominations this year, encompassing categories such as Best Show, Best Hero (Pedro Pascal), Breakthrough Performance (Bella Ramsey), and Best Duo. Interestingly, one of the nominations comes as a surprise – the show's portrayal of Tess's "kiss" has earned a nomination for Best Kiss.
If you are currently watching the series or planning to watch it and do not wish to have any of the surprises or twists revealed, please stop reading at this point to avoid spoilers.
The "kiss" in question involves the characters Tess and the infected Cordyceps zombie, portrayed by Anna Torv and Philip Prajoux respectively. The scene depicts the infected using his tendril-y mouth to attach to Tess's face, ultimately resulting in her demise.
The unexpected nature of this kiss made it a shocking moment itself, especially considering that it was not present in the original games.
Many fans have expressed their disappointment with MTV's choice to nominate the clicker "kiss" over other more genuine and heartfelt kisses from the show, such as the tender kiss between Bill and Frank in the third episode or the poignant kiss between Ellie and Riley in episode seven.
Furthermore, this nomination stirred up eerie feelings among people as the award has traditionally been associated with unforgettable romantic kisses that have left a lasting impression on viewers, like the memorable upside-down-in-the-rain kiss in Spider-Man.
For the record, other contenders for the Best Kiss award include Harry Styles and David Dawson in My Policeman, Madison Bailey and Rudy Pankow in Outer Banks, Riley Keough and Sam Claflin in Daisy Jones & The Six, and Selena Gomez and Cara Delevingne in Only Murders in the Building.
