This Elegant Animation Is Made Purely From Math

Yet we recognize it as a creature.

Vitaliy Kaurov, who discovered an animation by yuruyurau reminiscent of some simple aquatic creature and adapted it from P5.js to Wolfram Language, refers to the binding problem, which deals with the question of how the brain perceives and represents different features, or conjunctions of properties, as one object or event.

Essentially, this "mathematical" creature embodies the same puzzle. "Thousands of individual coordinate points become bound into a single perceived object, a creature, despite no central coordinator in the algorithm. The binding occurs in our visual system, not the mathematics, yet the mathematics seems pre-structured to enable this binding. Could this suggest either that mathematical relationships naturally support perceptual integration, or that our binding mechanisms are tuned to recognize mathematical harmonies?", commented Vitaliy.

Below is Vitaliy's take on the animation, along with the Wolfram code:

Inspired by Vitaliy, Emīls Geršinskis-Ješinskis adapted the code for Houdini and shared his VEX implementation:
