This Pixel Art Ratatouille Animation is Actually 3D

Les rêves des amoureux sont comme le bon vin...

Say what you want about Pixar's 2007 Ratatouille, but for me, it is and most likely will always be the pinnacle of the studio's animated movies, surpassing even renowned masterpieces like The Incredibles, Toy Story, and WALL-E. Apparently, 3D Artist and Animator Violet shares this sentiment, with her latest low poly animation paying tribute to the legendary movie about a determined rat proving that anyone can cook.

"Welcome to Gusteau's", the name of the artist's new animation, depicts Ratatouille's main character Remy as he tries to salvage the soup ruined by Linguini at the beginning of the movie. Offering a low poly reinterpretation of the iconic scene, the project may resemble a 2D pixel art animation at first glance, yet it is, in fact, a 3D sequence. According to the author, the artwork was brought to life thanks to Blockbench, a low-poly 3D editor for modeling, texturing, and animating voxel-style models.

Here's the same scene on Sketchfab:

Furthermore, Violet disclosed that the main source of inspiration behind the project was the Ratatouille: Food Frenzy game for Nintendo DS, released shortly after the movie's premiere in 2007.
