The story could have continued.
Tim Cain, the developer behind Fallout and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, has revealed the sequel ideas proposed for Bloodlines, saying Troika Games was planning a trilogy.
Cain found two unfinished design documents for what he first calls expansions. He thinks they were requested by Activision as it wanted to know the studio's plans after the game would be completed. The first sequel is called Exodus and follows you as you are "escaping from what you just did in Bloodlines in Los Angeles."
"But you're not the only one who are escaping. Apparently, Gehenna is coming and a lot of vampires are trying to get out. You go to Barstow because that's where vampires would be least likely to go, and not only are you being pursued, but there are already some vampires in Barstow, so it's a question of whether or not they will help you or hurt you. But Barstow is where the whole game takes place."
Exodus also mentions a title subtitled Final Nights, where you make it to Las Vegas and "Gehenna is about to happen."
Cain offers more details about Bloodhunt, the other sequel found in the documents, which begins in Barstow.
"You're trying to get to Las Vegas and you've sent your ghouls ahead of you. They didn't get to Vegas. You make it to a truck stop outside Barstow where you are attacked by a lot of the clans in Vegas, all the ones that you made angry. So that one only had designed the first act, so maybe it would go on to Vegas later."
Troika suggested some system mechanics in the document, but nothing too specific as it was done a year before Bloodlines release, and the developers wanted to see "what resonated from Bloodlines."
While the ideas never saw the light of day, Cain says he's "happy it happened." Now, Paradox Interactive is working on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 and says it is "absolutely not impossible" that the game could launch in 2023.
