Todd Howard Says Bethesda Wouldn't Exist Without TES 3 Morrowind

In a recent interview with Wired, Todd Howard, the well-known video game director and an industry legend, had the opportunity to delve into the history of his video game career. During the video, Howard reflects on the numerous milestones that Bethesda has achieved over the years, sharing some valuable insights into the projects he has been involved in.

Starting with Terminator: Future Shock, he highlighted its innovative introduction of a proper mouse look, setting the stage for immersive experiences. Then he explores the Elder Scrolls series, beginning with The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall and recalling his leadership role in The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard, which expanded the franchise.

He also shares that the game that truly brought Bethesda into the spotlight was The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. Its success, particularly on the Xbox console, secured its place in the history of the game industry. "We are all here today because this game was a huge success," says Howard.

During the video, he divides the games into different eras, from the MS-DOS era to the console era and the next-gen era. Speaking of which, he introduces Starfield as representing the future of Bethesda.

Howard further shows the evolution of Bethesda's game development capabilities by highlighting the shared technology foundation between Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim. He notes the similarities between Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, while also teasing the highly anticipated release of The Elder Scrolls 6.
