Try Marmoset Toolbag 5 Beta Now

This release introduces new powerful features, including UDIMs, Bevel shader, vector tools, Hybrid rendering, real-time baking, material layering, and more.

The Marmoset team has just announced that Marmoset Toolbag 5 is now available for public beta testing and shared an extensive list of new changes and updates. Yes, UDMIs are in!

This new release is set to be a game-changer for 3D artists of all disciplines. With significant baking, texturing, and rendering enhancements, Marmoset Toolbag 5's production capabilities have been expanded greatly, promising major time-saving efficiencies in your production pipeline.

Widely used in the film industry, UDIMs allow you to divide your UV layout into several tiles, each with its own texture set, simplifying the management of intricate, high-resolution texture data. Now, you can achieve incredible levels of detail seamlessly with the upgraded Bake toolset, introducing baking UDIM textures, interactive baking, and Bevel Shader baking features.

Toolbag 5's texture painting tools received major additions, such as UDIM tile and multiple texture set support, allowing you to 3D paint, apply Fill and Procedural layers of detail, and create complex masks and weathering effects that all work seamlessly over tile borders.

Vector Layers introduce a new, non-destructive way to incorporate geometric and organic shapes into your Texture Project using procedural curves or splines, and Sync Points enable an innovative workflow by letting you add geometric detail that affects other layers. Carve Groups, a new group type, lets you blend multiple layers with a single height-style blend mask. Additionally, the Clone tool is now available for Paint Layers, and it's now possible to paint anisotropic direction or flow maps.

Many other algorithms and tools were updated, including improvements to generating missing input maps from a mesh and normal map, support for Recolor adjustment layers, better Fill Layer recoloring, and advancements in Color Selection:

In terms of rendering and materials, you can now load tile sets in your material setup, which is ideal for film and game assets using the UDIM workflow to render detailed, high-resolution materials.

Hybrid is a new rendering mode that balances the raster renderer's interactivity and the ray tracer's image quality. Hybrid splits the rendering of various lighting passes (shadows, GI, reflections) so they can be independently denoised.

Material Layering enables the creation of intricate, blended multi-material effects suitable for a wide range of purposes, from dynamic variations of props or characters to large assets like buildings and terrain. The Bevel shader simplifies the process of rounding hard edges on your objects, providing a more natural and realistic look.

Support for grooming hair rendering and triplanar materials has been added, along with procedural skies, to enhance your project's presentation and natural look while ensuring seamless workflows. Overall, the rendering pipeline has been completely revamped, delivering up to 10 times faster ray-traced performance.
