Tutorial: Building a Snowman in Blender

CG Cookie has published a course dedicated to efficient ways of creating models and materials using built-in Blender functionality.

The main focus of this course is to learn how to develop models and materials procedurally, and as flexibly as possible in Blender.  The mentor will show you how to apply several non-destructive techniques to provide you the ability to create several iterations of your snowman with ease. A predominantly non-destructive workflow allows working faster, encouraging to focus more on the fun stuff, rather than getting bogged down on the production of it.

"Harnessing the power of modifiers will be an endless source of productivity when working in Blender. It’s not always about knowing which modifiers to use, but also knowing how to order and stack your modifiers together to develop the intended result.", says the CG Cookie team.

In the course, you will dive deep into the new and creative workflows with the more common modifiers. However, the mentor will also guide you through some lesser-used modifiers (Remesh, Skin, Displace). You'll hear the theory and at the same time practice viewing the workflow of the tutor.

A new tool that has been added to Blender 2.9 is the Cloth Filter brush in the sculpting workspace. Regardless of your sculpting ability, the Cloth Filter brush makes creating photo-realistic cloth easier and faster.

The second part of the tutorial will cover how to set up a scarf mesh for the snowman quickly, and use the Cloth Filter to add the final touches. The mentor will share some useful tips and tricks so you could use Cloth Filter for working on your next projects.
