Twinmotion 2025.1 Is Here

This release introduces an extended feature set for creating realistic exterior environments, a new Configurations toolset, powerful lighting and rendering enhancements, and more.

Epic Games has released Twinmotion 2025.1, a major update that streamlines 3D visualization, making it more accessible for creators across various industries to bring their ideas to life. Notably, if your scene features any outdoor elements, you'll appreciate the range of improvements made to Twinmotion's environment tools.

The new update adds true volumetric clouds to Twinmotion, allowing for customizable settings like altitude, coverage, density, and color. These clouds react to wind and cast shadows. Several cloud presets are included, and users can save custom presets for future use.

You now also have greater control over the ambience of your scene, with the ability to adjust the clarity and color of the dynamic sky using turbidity and atmosphere density settings. Users can also customize the sun's color or temperature (or the directional light for HDRI skies), as well as adjust the color, height, and density of exponential height fog. To simplify the process of reusing these settings, there's an option to save them as presets and apply them with a single click. Default presets like "Golden hour," "Sunrise glow," "Rainy day," and "Mars horizon" are included.

The redesigned Environment panel offers clearer settings for the dynamic sky and HDRI, plus the ability to separately adjust season, precipitation, and leaf fall/color for more dynamic effects.

The new Configurations feature allows you to create interactive 3D presentations showcasing different project variations for clients. Ideal for real estate sales teams, product designers, automotive manufacturers, and more, this feature lets you switch between variations with a single click while in Fullscreen mode or when viewing images, panoramas, videos, or sequences in local presentations.

Twinmotion 2025.1 also introduces several lighting and rendering improvements to enhance the software's capabilities and the quality of real-time renders. One highlight is the new Projector lights, which allow you to project any image or video texture onto a surface. This is great for visualizing live events and installations or simulating effects like caustic reflections on a boat hull.

Architects will appreciate the major improvements to real-time rendering of orthographic views in Standard and Lumen lighting modes. Shadows are now supported, and the black outline around objects is gone. This makes it easier to create high-quality plan and elevation views quickly, without using the Path Tracer, and allows for more precise object placement.

Currently available only on Windows, a new optional shadow rendering method based on Virtual Shadow Map technology has been added, offering more accurate and consistent shadows compared to Standard shadows.

Furthermore, this release adds extra controls for camera animation, including a new Orbit cam rig that rotates the camera around a specified central pivot in the scene. This makes it easy to showcase a 360-degree view of an object or focal point, with options to set the start and end points and height offset.

You can now smoothly adjust camera speed and spatial movement by selecting points on a camera path and tweaking their tangents. Additionally, the new look-at constraint for the Action cam allows you to precisely frame a shot on a specific moving target.

Twinmotion 2025.1 also introduces features tailored for automotive and transportation designers. There's new support for importing surfaces in the Alias Wire file format, commonly used in the industry, with tessellation parameters for added precision. Additionally, a new Tire base material has been added, which textures and automatically creates UVs for flat cylindrical objects like tires, along with four new tire materials in the Materials Library.

New controls have been added to the Car paint material, including options for pearlescent scale, clear coat roughness, and imperfections like dust, fingerprints, and scratches. Additionally, new Coated carbon fiber materials have been introduced in the Metals category, enhancing the realism of vehicle visualizations and other potential use cases.

This release brings even more features to boost productivity and enhance the user experience, including a new Measure tool, tools for mirroring, reversing face normals, and selecting/deleting faces, automatic LOD generation for real-time performance, the ability to multi-select media for Ambience adjustments, and the option to delete items in the Import dock, among others. Finally, fun confetti particles were added with reusable presets.
