Ubisoft Employees Sued the Company Over Office Mandate

The company required its workers to return to the office for three days per week.

Unions for AAA and mobile teams at Ubisoft in Barcelona have filed a lawsuit against the company over its office mandate, which required the company's employees to work in an office three times a week. The unions demand that Ubisoft change its recently renewed remote work policy and ensure a collective agreement protects remote work.

According to a recent report, the unions claim that the changes to the working schedule were made "suddenly and without transparency." They also pointed out that returning to office work would cause logistical problems as offices are not prepared to accommodate all the remote employees.

Back in September, Ubisoft asked all its employees worldwide to work in the office for at least three days per week. The previously set working regime implied that employees work from home 60% of days per month, as chosen by the workers.

Following the announcement, the French Union of Workers in the Video Game Industry called for the employees from all of Ubisoft's France entities to strike, stating that the management's announcement of 3 days per week in the offices "was made without any tangible justification or any consultation with the workers." The strike turned out to be one of the "gaming sector's biggest walkouts," with over 700 employees from Ubisoft's France entities.

Companies such as Techland and Rockstar also required their employees to return to their offices. Recently, the QA staff at Activision Blizzard also went on strike against the company's return-to-office mandate.
