The company addressed rumors and shared some tips for people who don't want to lose their accounts.
Over the weekend, player gamers around the world and fans of Ubisoft games, in particular, had a bad mood when a rumor spread that Ubisoft is deleting inactive Ubisoft accounts, permanently destroying digital game libraries if you don't log in often enough. Ubisoft decided to address the rumor saying your digital game libraries are safe.
The whole thing started on Twitter (X), of course, where one user showed an email entitled "Ubisoft Account Closure Due to Inactivity." The email said a Ubisoft account had been temporarily suspended, and would be closed permanently in 30 days unless the closure was canceled by the account owner.
Then, the message was confirmed by the official Ubisoft Support Twitter account, which clarified how to cancel the pending account closure.
Addressing different rumors, Ubisoft clarified it has "for many years now" deleted inactive accounts in accordance with the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on how long companies can store individual personal information. The company's policies are said to be "aligned with legal requirements and with the standards of the industry". What is more, those policies serve as fraud prevention.
Here are the criteria Ubisoft has when deleting accounts:
- The gaming activity of the account since its creation
- The account’s libraries: accounts that include purchased PC games are not eligible for deletion
- The duration of inactivity of the account, meaning the last login to the ecosystem (including from Ubisoft games on Steam and other platforms)
- The existence of an active subscription tied to the account.
Ubisoft went on to add that the emails that caused panic are sent to users 30 days prior to account deletion. The company says they have not deleted accounts that have been inactive for less than 4 years.
When was the last time you visited your Ubisoft account? You should find your login info if that was sometime around 2019.
