Dene Carter, a well-known designer behind Dungeon Keeper and Fable, has released Moonring, a new game that captivates players with the essence of classic RPGs from earlier times.
Mooring is a game that offers a distinct blend of dark fantasy, turn-based gameplay, and retro elements, combining classic RPGs and roguelikes. Its standout feature is the striking neon aesthetic that sets it apart from others in the genre.

Moonring was launched on September 29 and became available for all players free of charge on Steam. In the game's story, the land of Caldera was consumed by darkness 500 years ago. However, the rise of five moons brought light and strange Gods. These Gods offered Dreams, beckoning the devoted with supernatural Gifts.
This gave rise to the Calderan civilization, a realm full of Devotion, Dreamers, Gods, and their Gifts. To represent the Gods, a mortal known as the Dreamless Archon was appointed. But Archons are not immortal, and a new successor must be sought.
As players, you embody the Dreamless, granting you the freedom to shape your own destiny, ask daring questions, and even ascend to the role of Archon. The game invites you to explore a world of limitless possibilities, where the choices you make shape the future of Caldera.

The game allows you to explore a vast and meticulously crafted open world, ready to be discovered. Here, you can engage in endless adventures with dungeons that are dynamically generated based on your character's name, offering infinite possibilities. You'll have a chance to encounter over 100 distinct enemy types, ranging from minor foes to formidable bosses, ensuring every encounter is unique; as well as access to the power of 35 special Gifts from the Gods, with their abilities transforming alongside the ever-changing moon phases. Lots of thrilling naval expeditions, ship-to-ship combat, boarding actions, and more are waiting for you in the game.

Here's a small note from the veteran game designer, Dene Carter:
"Hi, folks. I've loved RPGs since the early 1980s and grew up playing games like Lord British's 'Ultima' series and early Roguelikes. This is my love-letter to a style of gaming that has largely fallen out of fashion: with its vivid, bright sprites overlaid on stark black backgrounds, true open-world gameplay, and lack of handholding. The days I spent playing these games were spent in joyful exploration and discovery, venturing into the dark unknown, a co-author of the experience, filling in the gaps left by the primitive art with my imagination. For those of you who did the same, I hope Moonring recaptures some of the spirit of those days for you. For those who did not, I hope that the more modern conveniences you find in this game allow you to catch a glimpse of what we did 40 years ago.
My heartfelt thanks to all who spared even a moment to play this. Please be kind to my mistakes. I will fix them," wrote the developer.
